On Thurs, July 6, Jonathan Patrick Nelson, of Tulsa, succumbed to his severe injuries inflicted from a tragic car accident five days prior. Born in Tulsa on November 10, 1989, Jon graduated from Booker T. Washington High School in Tulsa. In 2012, he Graduated from Oklahoma State University with a bachelors degree in Mechanical Engineering.
Jon was a valued Project Engineer at Williams Companies, having reached his five year milestone there, just last month.
Jon was an inspired, driven young man with a bright future ahead of him. He habitually strived for the best in everything, always willing to help those around him do the same. Jon was especially proud to be a mentor to his young niece and nephew. He was a shining light in the lives of many. His infectious smile brightened every room he entered and warmed every heart he touched. Jon's absence leaves a palpable void in the lives of many and he will forever be remembered as the special young man that he was.
Jon was a builder, an engineer to his core.
He enjoyed working on his beloved 1989 jeep, attending car shows, traveling and rock climbing with his family and friends. He was never one to rest. When he wasn’t working on his Jeep, he was often traveling, such as skiing in Colorado, or visiting the ruins of Machu Picchu.
Jon's last days were at St. Francis hospital, cared for by a dedicated staff. Jon and his family were upheld by the love and prayers of his many friends and coworkers, including his beloved Sigma Nu fraternity brothers. He left behind countless friends, many of whom held his hand during his last days. Jon was always lifting people up with his easy smile and bright wit. He will be missed by so many.
Jon is survived by his mother, Julie Nelson, and her companion of over 20 years, whom Jon loved as a father, Curtis Brown; his father, Larry Nelson, and wife Dani of Phoenix. His brother, Thomas Nelson; grandfather, Bob Turner; niece, Kimmy Nelson; nephew, Kaleb Nelson, all of Tulsa. Aunts and uncles, Jeff and Pat Turner of Norman; Jim and Cherrie Turner and Pam Turner, of Tulsa; numerous cousins in Oklahoma and Wisconsin. Resting in heaven, Jon was preceded in death by his sister, Stephanie Nelson; grandmother, Mary Ann Turner; and uncles, J. Chris and Joseph David Turner.
